ITIN Assistance
As a Certified Acceptance Agent (CAA), SME Business Consultants LLC (SMEBC) can certify your original documents, and submit copies of your original documentation along with your ITIN application. You do not have to include your original documentation with your ITIN application. The copies certified by the CAA will be acceptable by the IRS. SMEBC is required by the IRS to submit all ITIN applications we prepare on behalf of the applicant directly to the IRS.
Generally to apply for an ITIN you need to complete form W-7 and file it with a federal 1040 individual tax return. In addition, you will need to submit original (or certified) documentation to prove your identity and status such as a passport (see Proving your "foreign status" or “identity” below for a list of original documents you can submit to the IRS). You can submit original documents or "certified" copies by the issuing agency that provided you the documents. There are few exceptions where an ITIN application can be submitted without filing a tax return such as when a financial institution needs to report passive income to the IRS on an ITIN applicant's behalf. If you are required (or plan) to file a US federal tax return, then you may want to apply for an ITIN at the time you file a US federal tax return. You will need to paper file your tax return and include the ITIN application with your tax filing. If you have questions or would like for SME Business Consultants LLC to complete your tax returns and W-7 application, please feel free to contact us and we can set up an appointment for you to come in to our office to discuss further and to advise of our fees for this service. ITIN services are provided by appointment only (No walk-ins). For additional information regarding ITIN processing, please download and review the ITIN FAQs document.
